This album features 28 tracks by 30 musicians from the Pixel Mixers community.
Clocking in at almost 2 hours long, this is possibly the most coherent work we have ever done, both in terms of quality and musical style!
With the original music containing such a strong identity, people really went for that specific Ecco vibe with lot of synth, chill and surprising arrangements!

And guess what? You can listen to it directly on Youtube!

FREE VIRTUAL INSTRUMENTS – ORCHESTRA II: BRASS

Haave you ever been in need of that heroic horn sound, or that uplifting  trumpet section in one of your tracks? And have you needed it while being poor? Lucky you (well, not for the poor part) there are some solution to still have that brass section in your track for free!

Same as for our article on free strings, we are going to divide the instruments on our list into two categories: one is the category of absolutely free instruments, the other is for instruments that are free if you already own Native Instrument’s Kontakt.

Already cited in our previous article, here are all the esemble patches as last time:

VIRTUAL PLAYING ORCHESTRA BY PAUL BATTERSBY

Virtual Playing Orchestra has a brass section too. Copy-pasting from the said article, VPO is a free collection of orchestral instruments made putting together all the best free orchestral samples. The library is in .sfz format, so it runs on Sforzando (also free) and offers all sort of articulations and dynamics controls (not on all the patches, but on all those for which matter).

VSCO2 COMMUNITY EDITION BY VERSILIAN STUDIOS

VSCO 2 Community Edition (CE) is an open-source, open-ended subset of the main VSCO 2 library. These samples have been widely used and you can find them in multiple formats, such as VSTi/AUi, NKI, sfz, RMI and more.

I know it’s not much, but if you have Kontakt, you can up your game a little bit.

Again, let’s get the two full orchestras of last time first:

SKETCHING CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

Sketching Chamber Orchestra is a collection of Kontakt instruments built by some big names in the Kontakt Scripting community using the samples from VSCO2. If you own Kontakt and nothing else, this will get you started, and bring you very far.

PALETTE PRIMARY COLORS BY RED ROOM AUDIO

Last on this list, Palette – Primary Colors is the free version of the bigger Palette Orchestral Series.  It features strings, woodwinds, and brass ensembles with a limited set of articulations, 3 dynamic layers and up to 7 round robins for a total of 1.3GB of samples. Even though this does not offer individual sections, this is a gorgeous tool, and a free one.

BRASS COLLECTION BY ALPINE PROJECT

This one is a decent alternative to VPO, has received a nice rework lately and features the instruments both in “normal” and muted versions. Especially useful if you plan to layer many different samples to get a bigger sound.

VAN HOUZEN TRUMPET BY KURT LANDRE

Get ready, this one is a treat. Van Houzen Trumpet is a delicious solo trumpet with plenty of character. Scripted vibrato, legato and articulations will allow it to sit naturally in many contexts and get a lot of fun out of it!

ANGRY BRASS BY PERFORMANCE SAMPLES

Last – but definitely not least – for today is Angry Brass by Performance Samples. Do you know complicated GUIs, knobs, buttons and switches? Forget all that, because the interface you will be presented with is the most simple and straight-forward you can think of, and an engine behind the scenes will take care of performance for you.

Brass are especially tough to sample and program, so it’s not surprising to see few freebies in this area. Nonetheless, I can personally vouch the instruments in this list are will serve you well if you know how to take the best out of them.

Nothing more to say at this point, see you soon with another freebie list!

Final Fantasy IX – Beyond the Mist [Tribute Album]

Hey guys, I have the great pleasure to talk about what is to this day the biggest and (subjectively) best work by the Pixel Mixers community.
This album sets a milestone for us as a community and everyone’s time and efforts is finally rewarded by the release of this great project!
So let’s discover “Beyond the Mist” a Final Fantasy IX Tribute album.

You can download the full album (120 tracks) for free by clicking on this picture =>

FF_IX_final

Or directly with this link: http://www.mediafire.com/file/s6fh7a82m7zkidi/Pixel+Mixers+-+Beyond+the+Mist+%5BFinal+Fantasy+IX%5D.zip

This album features 120 tracks (the complete OST + some duplicates) made by as many musicians. The album is over 7 hours long !
We decided to divide this album into 6 “discs”:
A Night at Alexandria
Across the Hills
Of Rats and Men
Far from Home
Gaia & Terra
Bonus Tracks

While most of the songs follow the OST order, we decided to take some freedom and create some narrative arcs. This is especially true with the 1st disc that gathers songs related to characters or events linked to the city of Alexandria through the whole game.

We all hope you’ll enjoy our new takes on those fantastic songs composed by Nobuo Uematsu and the creative freedom we took with some of the songs.

Part 1: A Night at Alexandria

Part 2: Across the Hills

Part 3: Of Rats and Men

Part 4: Far from Home

Part 5: Gaia & Terra

Part 6: Bonus Tracks

GW2: Super Adventure Box – Try Hard & Tribulations [Tribute Album]

We are really happy to finally release our 2nd album of 2019, and it has a special story!
In the beginning of 2019 we had the idea to release a real but small album on April Fools Day. The idea we had was to use the fun OST from the Super Adventure Box, an old-school inspired adventure/platforming mini-game in Guild Wars 2 that was originally released in the game as an April Fools Day joke back in 2013.
The players enjoyed that mini-game created by Josh Foreman so much that it came back to be turned into an annual festival within GW2.

The OST of the “SAB” was composed by new GW2’s composers Maclaine Diemer and Lena Raine. Some songs like “Sunny Glade” or  “Main Theme” were still inspired by Jeremy Soule‘s compositions from the main game.

The funny chip-tune OST inspired our musicians and we went from a smaller 5-7 songs project to an album covering the complete OST from the Super Adventure Box, which made us change the release date to make sure we had all the songs covered. We sincerely hope you guys, GW2 fans or not, will enjoy this album =)

This album features the 24 tracks from the Super Adventure Box OST, originally composed by Maclaine Diemer, Lena Raine, Jeremy Soule, Joseph Clark & Keenan Sieg, re-arranged by 25 Pixel Mixers musicians.
The album is a little over 1 hour and 8 minutes of music and feature a great range of music styles, featuring: EDM, metal, classical, solo piano, country, fusion… and more.
